DrivePool and Server Backup

edited March 2012 in DrivePool
Some people have wondered if DrivePool will work with the WHS 2011 backup system.

The answer is yes, but with a caveat.

If you really want to backup your entire pool, all you have to do is back up all the individual drives that are participating in the pool.

The caveat is that duplicated files will be backed up twice.

What about the 2TB limit on WHS backups?

You can partition a 2TB+ drive into 2TB parts. For example, a 3TB drive can have a 2TB partition and a 1TB partition.

DrivePool understands how to deal with multiple partitions on the same physical drive.

What about folder duplication, is DrivePool smart enough to know that some partitions can be on the same physical disk?

Yes. The current build will only use physically different drives for file duplication. If two or more pool parts actually reside on the same physical disk, they will be treated like a single pool part as far as folder duplication is concerned.
