Thank you,

Downloading large files into the pool

edited April 2013 in DrivePool
Ok, like many of you I download large files.  I'm wondering if drive pool is going to be ok with this.

Some of them are downloaded via SABnzbd others are downloaded via uTorrent.

When
I was using WHSv1 the drive extender really didn't like it when I was
downloading files from these apps directly into the drive pool.  I would
regularly get errors that the files has been in use for too long and
couldn't be copied.

Is this a problem with Drive Pool?  Should I be downloading to be temp location that isn't part of the pool?

Comments

  • It works fine, I download torrents and usenet stuff all the time and it is extremely resilient. I did, however disable duplication.

I've used uTorrent, SABnzbd and sickbeard  with drivePool, and have never had any issues.

Drashna, do you have duplication turned on?

    Thanks!

For everything but my "downloads" directory and videos. Downloads get moved either automatically, or during an OCD cleaning/organization pass. :)

And I use a temp folder on a "dedicated" HDD and then move into the pool.

Ok, so I'll configure my download folder to be excluded from duplication.

    Thanks!
  • I have all torrents download to the downloads directory that's not duplicated and then I manually move them to whatever directory they need to be in within the pool that are duplicated. Never had a problem either. WHS 2011.

But to get back to the original question, duplication should be fine for these large files. I just don't have duplication enabled because I don't have the HDD space to enable it.
