  • Part 3) The issue seems to be the fact that the SiI 3132 is a multi-path device.  In other words, it has multiple SCSI channels.  The 3531 is a single channel device.  One port can accommodate up to 4 (maybe 5) devices.  The 3132 has two channels, e…
  • Part 2)If you pull up a disk in Device Manager, and go to the Details tab, you’ll see the fully-qualified hardware name of the device, like the examples below. The first is from the EX490; the other from an HP desktop with an add-on SiI card:…
  • Thanks Alex that's good to know excellent.    I remember you had Direct I/O for scanning enabled in one of the beta's of Scanner. (but since then disabled it)  Is Direct I/O still available for the basic SMART queries via the current Scanner build? …
  • I learned the MPEXSATA22I does NOT support Port-Multiplier.http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/ipb/index.php/topic/358266-sata-port-multiplier/ Command Queuing won't let you hookup more than one drive per channel. http://www.sata-io.org/technology/ncq.asp  (…
  • Here's another option as well: http://linitx.com/product/12894 PCI Express X1 to PCI Express Mini riser card  (Let's you plug in a regular PCI 1x card!)  They have a full 16x one too, along with a DUAL slot one
  • I read the MPEXSATA22 does NOT support Port-Multiplier so that means you can only hookup a total of 2 drives. With the MPX-3132, it DOES support port multiplier so that means you could hookup TWO 5-bay enclosures for a total of 10 drives.   It also …
  • It sounds like it does reading above, but I'd like to confirm if the  Silicon Image 3132  is capable of getting SMART data from drives via 3rd party SMART monitoring such as Scanner.   I get mixed results via google searches, and thought I'd ask so …
  • DrivePool is the easiest to setup and is trouble free.  The alternatives are http://flexraid.com (steep learning curve) or http://drivebender.com (hit or miss, also a bit strange to setup)
  • http://helgeklein.com/blog/2012/03/windows-8-storage-spaces-bugs-and-design-flaws/ This pretty much tells me I'll be using 3rd party pooling solutions for some time to come.
  • Did you format the drives before you started?  Try righ clicking the hard drives themselves the check / reset permissions AND security.  Reset them all etc
  • yeah show hidden folders, check for the pool part folder on each drive directly and see if the video folders are still there on every drive.
  • Perfect, just what I needed!  (nice, never heard of followthatpage)  I'm signed up thanks.
  • I just posted this question about how to be notified of new beta builds http://forum.covecube.com/discussion/609/notifications-for-latest-drivepool-post-release-beta-releases#Item_1
  • Great guide Shane, while I've been on 2011 for quite awhile now, I have a few friends that are finally ready to migrate from V1.  I sent this page to several people and it was greatly appreciated.
  • I've had some occasional strange permissions problems pop up left over from M2/M3 days and experiments gone wrong.   I don't remember exactly what was missing or what I changed, but I always got it working.   I'll follow this guide closer next time …
  • I've been waiting to change my drive pool driver letter until someone said how and that it's safe. I'm currently drive M: but I'd rather have it drive S:   (for StableBit)  It will also be further away from conflicts as well. What are all the steps …
  • While on your WHS (either Remote Access, or Directly) are you moving things via the Network share, or the local Drive letter assigned to drive pool drive? Example are moving something from   \\server\videos\folder1 to \\server\stuff or S:\videos\fol…
  • I have a spare 5 bay eSata enclosure I'd like to use as an off-site backup.   It would be nice to have a temporary second pool I can copy all my stuff to once a month.  (and then take it to an off-site location)  I would do this for fire/theft prote…
  • Right now mine is M: I'd like to make it P: I'll wait until we have the all clear to change it manually.  I'd rather not break anything just yet and can wait.

  • The Media Streaming is still wonky unfortunately.   When I pull up Videos or Pictures from my XBOX 360, no folder is listed.   It's blank in both Media Center Extender mode and the Xbox Dashboard Video page.  (See's the drive letter, but nothing bel…

  • Success, I'm now on M4 and old M3 shares migrated successfully.   Indexing is happening, and I'm able to add library's into my Win 7 laptop at last. I had one unexpected server reboot, and submitted a ticket with full logs.  I'll leave that to Alex …
  • Uhg, my M3 got unhealthy/un-duplicated files again today, it's been chugging away for hours again with the repair. Is it possible to upgrade from M3 to M4 with unhealthy drives? (or would it be faster to change shares from duplicated to not duplicat…
  • Just curious - are the bugs Alex is currently working out (that caused him to remove the M4 link) strictly migration related?   I only ask because I have been sitting on the sidelines awaiting M4 to take the plunge with my WHS!  Can't wait to get th…
  • I'm all excited to migrate from M3 to M4, but the repair of my unhealthy M3 drives is taking forever!  I'm on my 3rd of 4th unhealthy drive repair, started 5 hours ago.  Go figure the longest repair time I've ever had is the day I want to update to …
