  • Having not tried this myself, I would still assume it would work based on this train of logic: If DP and WHS can discover all the pooled drives and reassemble the pool from a fresh clean install of WHS and DP, surely it could eventually find a drive…
  • I am a double StableBit owner now as well.   Bravo, Alex!!
  • I had the same issue with the PayPal link.   I used Google Checkout and it worked just fine.    Glad to finally send some $ Alex's way (and also very much appreciated the discount for having already purchased Scanner!)
  • Yes, I use the workaround.   :-)     Makes no sense to me to require a 120 (or is it 160?) drive, only to chop off all but 60GB for really no use (I don't want data on the same physical drive as my OS).   So, I trick WHS into letting me do it my way!
  • Thanks, Shane!   I was most worried about the "default" folders, so I'm so happy to see that this all just works. I'll be doing this as my 64GB SSD arrives today! R
  • I know this can be done easily, as I recall reading it in the forums somewhere.   Could someone post here a bit of a step by step as to how to reincorporate the pooled folders into a new install (including the "prefab" folders such as Videos, Pictur…
  • Yeah, Shane is right.  I've been following for quite some time (tested a bit at the very initial beta releases, but had to reduce to following once the my teaching duties restarted last fall).   I jumped "all in" last week, and now have all 7TB of d…
  • So what I decided to do is this: I created a new share called "TV Series" on the P (my Pool drive) drive (I use MyMovies, so this seemed appropriate) and am copying the contents of my "Recorded TV" folder using TeraCopy (Oh my goodness, I wish I'd f…
  • OK, good to know!
  • Most recent version of Scanner seems to have fixed this issue!  Everything is up and running just fine.
  • Oh, good.  Something to enable my obsessive compulsive instincts.
  • Is that the issue right now?  Client backups are OK on the pool, as long as they are not duplicated?   I'm finishing a migration over to DrivePool, and things are going great, but don't want to muck things up with the Client Backups...
  • This worked great!  Thanks!  I knew there had to be a way!  Except..    (and this is my own doing).  I'd forgotten that when I first set this up, I'd created a couple of "spanned" drives (for my movie/tv rips).   Have to copy those over before brea…
  • Hi again!     My server is already filled (with several TB of stuff), so what I'm doing is actually moving the folders from non pooled to pooled using the "Move Folder" wizard (which I thought I read somewhere that at this point that was the way it …
  • I had a vague understanding of shadow copies, but this definitely helps.    Now that I think about it I can see why it wouldn't work on the pool. They all seem fine on the physical drives themselves...  Good so far. Thanks! Ron
  • I'm starting to get this on my system now.   Unfortunately I can't tell if it's because of installing DrivePool, or because of the recent WHS RollUp release (hadn't checked scanner between the two events).   Scanner had been running great at least r…
  • Just curious - are the bugs Alex is currently working out (that caused him to remove the M4 link) strictly migration related?   I only ask because I have been sitting on the sidelines awaiting M4 to take the plunge with my WHS!  Can't wait to get th…
  • Based on my experience and what I understand from my investigating this on the connect site, WHS 2011 will only back up to one 2TB disc at a time.   You can manually swap out disks, but it will not backup multiple shares to multiple back up discs wi…
  • I agree - Every time I try drive bender I end up immediately uninstalling it.   It's nowhere near a straight forward as drivepool.   About to take the plunge and purchase stablebit scanner (though it's like buying something that tells me I need to b…
  • I dont know, I've seen this sort of behavior this on my WHS 2011 box without drivepool having ever been installed, so it may be something that drivepool's existence exacerbates.  I'm not entirely convinced it's strictly a drivepool *caused* problem.
  • I'm waiting for M4 before I begin relying on it in any way.  It *probably* will be fine now, but there are still wierd bugs surfacing here and there.   We're almost there!
  • I don't have experience with the reinstall of WHS and DP, but I might be able to help you with the duplicate folder issue - perhaps saving you a reinstall? Do you see this duplicate when accessing the folders through the Homegroup?   If so, I've fou…
  • I'm wondering (like a kid on Christmas eve!) if the fact that the M3 builds have stopped, that we might be on the verge of M4??? Either way, we all know good things are coming, and that Alex's top priority is a quality product!
  • I've actually had issues with this type of thing on my XBOX and other extenders even without DrivePool - a random share not showing up even though all the others are just fine and everything permissioned identically.   Maybe Alex's fix helps with wh…
  • Hi, Alex - it's been awhile! I have two questions: 1 - M3 is close, right?  2 - when removing a drive from the pool, do the shares remain available?   I remember a big pain with WHS v1 was that if you wanted to remove a drive, the whole server was e…
  • ipitman - totally agree. PLUS, details are starting to emerge about DataCorp's solution.   It's nothing more than fancy RAID, with all the limitations and complexities that go along with it.    Alex, YOU are developing the REAL replacement for DE in…
  • Nope.  StableBit *Scanner* is only for WHS v1.   *DrivePool* is for 2011 (which I am currently beta testing).   My question here was would the Scanner (which is why this was placed in the "Scanner" forum) add-in ever be ported over to 2011 from WHSv…
in 2011? Comment by dvdluvver March 2011
  • Alex, I would second that recommendation (as we talked about using new drives either for the pool, or not, but not both).  Drive letters would only be for those drives that a user wishes to use for something other than the pool (which probably won't…
  • This is consistent with the type of behavior I see with copying large amounts of data that involve lots of files.   Folders seem to get created first, but then the files don't get filled in. Was this with build 569, or 562?   I had this same issue …
