Thank you,

Upgrading a hard disk

edited September 2011 in DrivePool
I have used all of the bays on my server and would like to upgrade an old 1 TB drive to a 3 TB drive. Do I need to clone the old 1 TB drive into the new drive or can I just pull it out and everything will be rebalanced? All of my folders are pooled and duplicated and it is not the drive that has the client computer backups. Thanks

IF the 1TB drive ONLY contains duplicated DP shares, yes, you could simply shut the server down, pull the old drive and put in the new 3TB drive. DP will of course complain. First tell DP to add the new 3TB drive to the pool, then second tell it the old drive is gone and not coming back. It should re-balance/re-duplicate using the new drive.

I suggest formatting the old drive (or deleting/renaming its ServerPoolPart.GUID folder) once this is complete (or at least, do NOT re-insert it unless this has been done).
