Recommendation for moving 3.4 TB Recorded TV folder to pool

edited February 2012 in DrivePool
I have 3.4 TB of ripped TV DVD's on a spanned disk.   I have enough room on my current pool to move it over.  I can't just point a new folder to where they currently are because I want to get the files off the spanned disk, break up the span and add those disks to the pool.   Using the "move folder" wizard makes the files unavailable to the network while the move happens (which, based on the rest of the transferring I've done will take about 2.5 days).

The files are currently in the "prefab" shared folder "Recorded TV" (which I think makes a difference as to my options here).   Is there a way to get these over on the pool without having to take the share down?  Family accesses these often, and I won't be very popular if I have to take them offline for essentially the rest of the weekend.   I'd love to have the copying done somehow in the background, then point the folder to the new location on the pool, then delete the original version.

Suggestions?

Thanks!!!

Ron

  • So what I decided to do is this:

I created a new share called "TV Series" on the P (my Pool drive) drive (I use MyMovies, so this seemed appropriate) and am copying the contents of my "Recorded TV" folder using TeraCopy (Oh my goodness, I wish I'd found this little gem a long time ago!) in the background.  Once the copy is done, I can delete the contents of "Recorded TV" and then break up the span and add the disks to the pool.

The march to release presses on!
