Thank you,

Can no longer run installers from pool drives (5933)

edited March 2012 in DrivePool

I just upgraded to (1.0.0.5933) and I can no longer run installers from the pooled drives.  This worked fine a few versions before, but whenever I do it now it gives me temp folder errors and aborts.  I was trying to install amd's drivers but I found it was with any installer.  If you copy these apps to the desktop then run them they install fine.

I think i was on 5888 or something like that previously.

The error is usually:

Setup was unable to create the directory:

  "c:\users\admin\..."

  Error 5: Access is denied.

Like I said though copy the exe to the desktop it works fine, anyone know of a fix for this?

  • My understanding is that you were never meant to run the installer from a pooled drive. I could be wrong but I am certain it is in the previous release notes or documents. The addin's for WHS2011 are written to be installed from a workstation not from the server.

You may have been lucky previously but there is no real drama in downloading the new version to a workstation and running from it there. I do not personally browse from the server, but always from my main workstation and if necessary for installation of some program simply copy the files to the server.

Hi Dave, sportbikerr1 is referring to general Windows installers (.exe), not Add-In installers (.wssx) such as DrivePool. This is (most likely) a bug, and should I think be reported to Alex at http://stablebit.com/Contact
