Thank you,

Empty server folders in drive pool after changing the pool drive letter

edited June 2012 in DrivePool

I needed to change the pool drive letter (which was G:) to accommodate two more physical drives that I wanted to add.  I read the April 23 answer by Shane under the topic "Can I change the drive letter for the drivepool".  All went well in changing the letter to P: but I now see these empty folders:

D:\PoolPart.5096f539-1446-4fa9-8d4a-4f18836125f0\ServerFolders\Pictures.DELETE.{F5468B3D-1CA8-4B91-870B-83BE387D5A41},
D:\PoolPart.5096f539-1446-4fa9-8d4a-4f18836125f0\ServerFolders\Recorded TV.DELETE.{A4D4A1EC-CDA3-4663-B384-4F5197650A17}, and
D:\PoolPart.5096f539-1446-4fa9-8d4a-4f18836125f0\ServerFolders\Videos.DELETE.{1EF63561-32B4-4BE1-8A9E-F76BB99196D7}

on the two drives that were first installed.  These are in addition to the Pictures, Recorded TV and Videos folders that are there.

I'm wondering why these folders are present and if I can safely delete them.

(Note: I would suggest making a drive letter change a prominent point in the installation instructions.)

    Hi arrowd, sorry for the delay in anyone responding, if they're like me they're all tied up with work. Anyway:

    If the *.DELETE.* folders are empty, they are safe to delete.

    If they hadn't been empty, but if they contained only copies of files you had elsewhere, they would also be safe to delete.

    See http://forum.covecube.com/discussion/comment/2602#Comment_2602 for an explanation from Alex; basically WHS did it, thinking the folders were still in use.

    I have now edited my original post to put a reboot just before rather than just after the drive letter change; this should hopefully avoid the problem in future.

    Hmm.
