I removed drivepool, manually deleted the hidden folders from my drives, then re-installed drivepool. The drives are no longer visible to add them to the pool. If I delete the volumes on the drives and re-create volumes then I drivepool sees them again.
I'm assuming that drivepool has a list somewhere of volumes it thinks are already in a pool. I tried deleting the volumes defined for covefs in the gefistry and rebooting but it didn't solve the problem. How to I tell drivepool to recognize drives that were manually deleted from the pool?
