Thank you,

M4 & KeepVault

edited January 2012 in DrivePool
I upgraded today from M3 to M4, using the latest build.  Everything went well (minus having to delete Recorded TV share that was stuck on the old file structure), however M4's new file structure sticks all the shares with a new drive letter.  This causes mass chaos with any online backup solution - I happen to use Keep Vault.  I contacted Keep Vault and they're telling me I need to revert the files to the old destination to avoid backup duplication...

My question is - does anyone else have a similar situation/work around?  I can "move" my share folders from J:/Videos, etc. where they sit now to D:/ServerPool/ServerFolders/Videos - where they used to be - but I'm guessing that M4 made the change for a reason.  Any advice?

  • I have the same problem with Carbonite.  The folder was moved and I cannot tell Carbonite to use the new location.  The problem is that it is missing from the right-click menu when I select the drive or folder.  No other drives on my machine have this problem, it is only the "Covecube" drive.

I'm not quite sure how Carbonite snaps-in to that menu but this is somewhat of a deal-breaker for me if I can't get this resolved.
  • I just started another thread before I saw this one...I have Crashplan and although it says it should recognize the same files, it doesnt. I emailed them and am waiting for a responce.

I don't mind backing up again but I'm on Comcast who have a 250GB limit a month. With netflix streaming, email, backup, work and normal browsing I'm always close to this.

  • I just posted on the Crashplan thread, and I didn't have this problem after the M4 upgrade. Crashplan does start the backup again but as it hash compares the files on source and desination, it only sends files that have changed even if they are in a different source location. On my setup this seems to be working fine - my Crashplan Central (cloud) backup ran at about 10GB to 20GB per hour even though the physical connection is throttled to 800kbit/s.

Also bear in mind that Crashplan tends to backs up the most recently changed files first (as these are guessed to be most important), so if any files have changed it will appear to start off slowly then speed up in this scenario.
  • Why aren't you guys pointing to the shares instead of the junction points? The shares would never change and this is exactly why I point to the share and not the junction. After upgrading to M4, CloudBerry was none the wiser...
  • Not all backup providers are created equal.  For instance, Carbonite does not support backing up shares unless you are on a premium/upsell account.
