Adding a Hidden Drive

edited October 2012 in DrivePool
Can someone tell me the benefit of doing this? And conversely the implications?

    Hidden how?
  • If you add a new drive to the DP you have a tickbox option to add it as Hidden.

If it's hidden, it isn't given a drive letter. This means it can't be seen in explorer and other applications which rely on drive letters to be able to see drives and drive content. DrivePool can still see it.

Pros: you can attach many pool drives without running out of letters or cluttering explorer with drive letters.

Cons: you can't see and explore the drives in explorer/other apps - which you don't normally need to do anyway if all you're using them for is pooling (since you'll be accessing the pool via the pool drive letter).

You can always hide/unhide them later via Disk Management, too.

Alternative is to add it as NTFS folder
