Migrating From WHS 2011 Drivepool To W8 Drivepool

edited November 2012 in DrivePool
Now that I have upgraded 6 of my 7 PCs I got to wondering how will migration work when I upgrade my WHS 2001 server to a W8 box.

Will I be able to turn off my drives, install DrivePool on the W8, turn on drive bays, and reboot and Drivepool finds my existing Drivepool f?  Or will I have to sacrifice a small dog to the computer gods to get it to work, j/k PETA. :)

Windows 8 drivepool? From what i see Drivepool is a WHS2011, Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials, Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials product only

Windows Vista/7/8 support is planned for version 2.0 (although the current roadmap has 1.3, with multiple pool support, coming out first).

If drivepool's fundamental architecture remains in the same vein, and I imagine it should, it will be along the lines of your first scenario, not your second; no small dogs required. :)

I hope that is the case and small dogs everywhere thanks you. :)
  • Hi Shane, will version 2.0 support server 2012 essentials? I have your products running on WHS 2011 and I love them. Not too happy about storage spaces so would like to migrate from storage spaces eventually to drivepool in the future.

Hi ajafar, I'm not with Covecube (cool as that would be), I'm just a volunteer forum mod. As to your question re 2012 Essentials though, the official roadmap thread at http://forum.covecube.com/discussion/654/drivepool-1-1-and-beyond/p1 mentions that version 2.0 "will most likely run on the OS".

Basically, from that and other posts, it seems that Alex's goal is to get 2.0 able to run on ALL current 64bit versions of Windows from Vista on up. Let's hope he succeeds. :)
