Thank you,

Directly using a pooled drive

edited March 2013 in DrivePool
This is a noob question, but I can't seem to find an answer: I'm trying out DrivePool on a WS2012e install. So far so good, but I was wondering if I wanted to keep some server shares (such as client backup) writing directly to one of the pooled drives, would that be problematic?  Here's what I mean for clarification:

D: is my DrivePool, consisting of physical drives E:, F: and G:.
I keep most of my server shares in D:, however, I want to have some (like client backup), pointing directly to E, bypassing the pool. Is this possible or advisable?  Will the DrivePool balancing move files away from E: as it fills up with non-pooled files?

You can definitely do this. However, you may need to tweak the balancing settings to ensure pooled files will be moved away from that drive faster than your backup program will fill it with non-pooled files.
  • What's the easiest way to do this? Still getting a feel for DP.

Sorry, had to deal with "analog world" things for a few days. Do you still need help?
