  • Could be a bug. DP isn't supposed to interfere with disk idling. Perhaps contact Alex and he can suggest which logs to send? http://stablebit.com/contact
  • Happy to report that build 4055 and its permissions-resetting tool solved my problem.
  • New build out already, 4055, "Changed reset permissions to apply owner / inheritance rules in separate stages." Any luck with it?
  • Hi Ruben, just got a reply from Alex re my permissions problem error report, which included this bit: "The next build will have a full permission reset option" Nice.
  • Additional problem. Discovered photos share couldn't be accessed. Permissions in DP were all No Access. Told DP to change that to Read/Write and up popped an error window: Error applying folder propertiesThis security ID may not be assigned as the o…
  • I was under the impression that the Access Denied errors mentioned so far were only happening to pre-existing pool folders? Mine are only happening to pool folders I attempt to create - existing ones are working just fine. EDIT: have sent Alex DP's …
  • I upgraded from build 3785 to build 3959 earlier today. I have just tried to add a new folder and received the Access Denied error. The first time, it created a folder under ServerFolders.Mount and a symlinkd under ServerFolders (all of my other sha…
  • Yep, as lee1978 says, (for now) the only automatic way is to remove and re-add one of the full drives.
  • @Dr_Frankenstein check that you have the latest build?
  • Plug in all the drives (you may wish to turn them on one-by-one if you're hot-plugging). That way DrivePool won't complain about missing drives from the pool.
  • Yes, you'd have to be very careful that you remove the junction and not what it's pointing to (your entire pool!!!)
  • Hi moldmaker78. Yes, you can use that path (very handy for local apps/services that can't see your shares), and the files will be placed into the pool. EDIT: But as Alex says further down, it's better to use c:\serverpool\serverfolders.mount\videos.…
  • IF the 1TB drive ONLY contains duplicated DP shares, yes, you could simply shut the server down, pull the old drive and put in the new 3TB drive. DP will of course complain. First tell DP to add the new 3TB drive to the pool, then second tell it the…
  • I would suggest filing a bug report. http://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_DrivePool_Log_Collection
  • DP should perform its usual balance-on-write routine when removing a drive. If not, it's a bug.
  • "Am I right in the understanding that from now on with data writes it should balance across the drives in the pool though?" Yes. As noted, DP will write to the drive with the most free space first, regardless of size. Given your setup, DP should the…
  • I think there's a screenshot in an post by Solarnet somewhere showing DP running on some ridiculously large number of drives (a hundred? more?). Aha. 103 disks, 205 TB: http://forum.covecube.com/discussion/126/pool-size-limits#Item_7 That's a virtua…
  • For now there is only on-write balancing based on absolute (not percent) free space remaining at the time. Re-balancing (e.g after adding more drives) will be looked at later (M4 or release or post-release). See also http://forum.covecube.com/discus…
  • Sorry, could you edit that to make it a bit clearer?
  • A1) WHS2011 normally partitions the OS drive into a system partition and a data partition. You can add the data partition to the pool. A2) If you format the second drive from your WHSv1 installation, you will lose whatever is on it. If instead you s…
  • Woah, mwolfod, I suspect Alex needs to sleep from time to time! Have you submitted a bug report? http://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_DrivePool#Troubleshooting_and_reporting_bugs
  • Hi Britgeezer. DP should not wipe the pool; it should simply stop working. You should be able to upgrade and regain access to your pool on your return. Of course, if you have any other applications that depend on having access to pooled files, those…
  • Hmm, have you tried removing it via the Add-ins tab in the WHS Dashboard rather than via control panel?
  • WHS 2011's Indexing Options does not allow adding UNC paths, junctions or symbolically linked directories via its GUI. Nor does Windows 7. This is, of course, a pain in the behind. I've found a few kludgy workarounds, but frankly nothing as easy as …
  • If there's no disadvantages to moving it to D, and it has the benefit of improved backup compatibility...
  • What it means is that if you plug in a drive - from WHS v1 or anywhere else - DrivePool will not delete any files that are already on the drive. DrivePool does not automatically add your existing files to the pool. Unless/until someone creates an im…
  • Hi mcholach, if you need to point to a disk rather than a share, use the C:\ServerPool\ServerFolders.Mount\ path. (not to be confused with the C:\ServerFolders or C:\ServerPool\ServerFolders\ paths) Alex, we should update the wiki's "How does it wor…
  • Can you test whether this same problem occurs when you also exclude a server folder that isn't in the pool? If WHS re-includes both, it would seem to me to be a WHS problem.
  • Start, Control Panel, Hardware, Power Options, Change plan settings, Change advanced power settings, Hard disk, Turn off hard disk after... (use zero for never).
  • Might be worthwhile to examine the NTFS security settings of the files on the server itself (not DrivePool's share permissions, the NTFS permissions on the files/folders on the server's physical disks)?
